Ashleyleia of Mental Health @ Home was recently nominated for a new type of award and opened up her nominations to any of her readers. The Special Blogger Award was created very recently, and so I thought it would be fun to try. So thank you Ashley!
1.) Thank the blogger who nominated you
2.) Answer the questions you are asked (if you’re comfortable doing so!)
3.) Create 10 questions for the bloggers you’ve nominated
4.) Nominate at least 3 bloggers for the Special Blogger Award
5.) Comment on your nominees most recent blog post to let them know you’ve nominated them
6.) Have fun!
1.) What made you take the leap and start your blog?
An injury left me with a lot of time on my hands, and I’ve been anticipating a career change into something writing related for a while now. So, this seemed like a good place to practice my craft.
2.) Are you aiming to progress your blog into a full time job or keep it as a hobby?
If I was ever able to make a living doing something like this, then that would be amazing, but I’ve also discovered that it’s quite difficult to do with a personal blog. So that’s on the back-burner for now. Until then, it’s just for fun – no expectations. I’m just practicing my craft.
3.) What are your favorite kind of blog posts to read?
I tend to enjoy reading poetry the most, or stories that are raw, authentic and honest. Especially, those posts dealing with the hard stuff that people have to deal with in life. Those remind me that we each have our own struggles and they put my own into perspective sometimes.
4.) What are your favorite kind of blog posts to write?
For me – It’s poetry and short stories, although I don’t write as many short stories as I would like! I do enjoy writing on a variety of subjects though. I tend to get bored if I’m stuck writing the same things over and over again.
5.) Do you feel your blogging experience has impacted you positively? Why/why not?
Yes – Being able to share myself with the world in this way has helped me tremendously in my ability to open up and feel heard. The community has really impressed me in here through WordPress.
6.) Are the people in your life (outside of the blogging community) supportive of your blog?
I have a few family members and friends who read my blog. I share my posts on occasion through Facebook, but only a handful of them will ever read through my posts. I don’t let it bother me, I do it for me.
7.) What advice would you give to fellow bloggers who are just starting out?
Write from your heart, be authentic, be yourself. Don’t get too caught up trying to make every single blog post a smash hit. It’s all a learning process and you’ll grow as your blog grows. I’ve deleted a lot of old posts as my blog has evolved!
8.) If you could go back to when you first began your blog, what piece of advice would you give yourself?
Don’t write for anybody but yourself. Be aware of your audience and appreciate your readers, but fully immerse yourself in your blogging world. Don’t filter it too much because you’re afraid of what people might think. Be you. It should be fun.
9.) What is your top tip for growing a blog?
Honestly, hovering just around 215 followers right now, I would say that I am hardly one to preach how to grow a blog! It’s been slowly and steadily growing, and that’s been mostly because I’ve been trying to engage with other bloggers. Make connections!
10.) How many blog posts do you post a week? Do you try to stick to a schedule or just post when you feel like it?
I’ve been posting at least once daily for the past month or so, sometimes I’ll do a few posts in a day. I’ve just recently started saving a collection or writings for future posts, and I almost have a week’s worth which is really nice! It takes the pressure off to produce which is great and now I can just write when I feel like it.
